Alaskans on Vacation! 2015 Travel Vlog 6 [Turkish Bath in Istanbul]

Today we are going to an authentic Turkish Hammam!  Also referred to as a Turkish Bath, this is an amazing cultural experience no one should miss!

When you visit  Cagaloglu Hammam you will completely understand why it’s in 1000 Places To See Before You Die.  Our experience was nothing short of unique and priceless!  Watch our travel vlog below to hear the details of our separate experiences.

After our bath we were hungry and needed to re-hydrate.  We hit the streets in search of food.  It didn’t take long before we found Guvenc Koyali and another spectacular meal!

It looks as good as it tasted!

We have found that most places in the world have food wrapped in some sort of flat bread. This dish was wrapped in phyllo pastry.

After lunch we worked our way across Istanbul to the Asian side of the city.  A unique fact, Istanbul is on two continents, Europe and Asia.   We were meeting our friends for a group cooking class at the Istanbul Cooking School.

The class started in the Taksim District with a walk through a street market to pick up fresh ingredients for our meal.

Our walk included hitting a liquor store for wine and beer, I could get used to this kind of school.  The classroom was right around the corner in a neighboring building.

With the currency exchange alcohol was reasonably prices, but it was heavily taxed.

We had a great time and prepared a wonderful meal.

We were eating really good today.

After class we went our separate ways, a few of us still had plenty of energy and decided to walk and take the Metro back to the hotel.   Being accompanied by Jeff, David, and Kelsey turned a simple walk into a great time.

Walking thought Istanbul at night is another amazing experience.  We made it to the Hippodrome which is the center between the Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque and couldn’t help but to take some pictures.

On a final note: The evening before our bath we participated in an activity called MazeUp.  A trip like ours has many highlights, this one was so much fun it’s a crime not to share it with you.

Located a couple floors up in a nondescript building the hosts told a story about a Sultan’s Diamond.  They locked the 5 us in an elaborately decorated room and told us to escape we needed to find the Sultan’s Diamond.  We quickly found our first few clue and in a matter of a couple minutes we were running around the room testing locks and searching for more clues!  I don’t want to reveal too much more because you should have your own experience.  Similar places can be found in popular destinations under names like room escape.
